Industry Awareness: Employment and Recruitment Fraud

Phishing attempts by scammers posing as industry recruiters are rising. They use legitimate employee names and authentic-looking documents to solicit sensitive data via email and phone calls.

Warning signs:

Warning signs include unexpected messages from unknown senders, requests for money or unusual fees, contact via social apps (WhatsApp, SMS, etc.) or personal email (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud etc), email addresses with minor misspellings or extra characters, immediate offers of high pay and extraordinary benefits, and requests for excessive personal information. 

Recommended actions:

Do not respond to or engage with the sender, avoid clicking links or opening attachments, never share personal details with unknown parties, block the sender and use the platform’s “report phishing” feature, and report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov
